Embodied geometries:
the circle in the geometries of the body.
Art-based approaches
to Language Learning.
We will create our own circular diagram, a symbol and expression of our relationship and interaction with space. We will do this by exploring some of the many possibilities of our body to move by drawing lines and forming geometries in space.
The workshop involves alternating between short movement lessons according to the Feldenkrais Method® and moments of creativity to bring the body geometries experimented through movement onto paper and in life-size. At the end there is a designated moment to share experiences with each other.
The workshop is the result of my experiences as museum educator and somatic teacher and its goal is to promote a new approach to language teaching using Art and movement.
Why and how can we use Art in a language class? How can we approach it? What are the advantages of combining Art and Language? What kind of language-based activities can we associate to Art contents? The workshop will address these and other questions arising from an art-and a body-based approach to language teaching in a very practical way; inspired by a selection of different artworks participants will engage with their bodies and all their senses in practical-creative and in dialogue-based activities that can be adapted and/or further developed in other contexts.
